Rehabilitation for Paraplegics Using Patient Driven Approach: Simulation of Sit-to-stand Movement Using Fes for Paraplegics, a Patient Driven Approach

Paraplegia is caused due to injury to the lower part of the body. One of the major reason is the spinal cord injury. This effects the health of the person suffering from this injury resulting in depression and inability to perform basic tasks in their daily life such as standing up from a sitting position. An approach to perform this basic exercise has been presented in this book. The patient driven strategy proposed helps in achieving sit to stand movement with the patient having complete control over the entire motion. Neural networks have been used to implement the inverse modeling i.e. estimation of input required for a certain output. The simlation has been performed in Matlab, Simulink and Visual Nastran.
