Porch Songs

Billy Goerdt is an award winning singer songwriter originally from Iowa, now living in Austin, Texas. His independently produced debut CD, entitled 'Porch Songs,' has eleven skillfully crafted tunes all written by Billy. His folk rock style is compared to the likes of Neil Young, Lyle Lovett and John Prine. His witty, sometimes funny and always thought provoking lyrics paint a vivid picture for the listener. Like most of the musicians in Austin, Billy grew up somewhere else. That place is called Dyersville, Iowa. Dyersville is a small town of about 4000 friendly people, not far from the banks of the Mississippi, where he was raised along with 8 brothers and 1 sister. (Yes, that poor girl). Anyway, Dyersville's big claim to fame would be that the movie, 'Field of Dreams,' was filmed there. The field is still there and people come from all around just for a game of catch or to get lost in the corn. It's this small town feeling that flavors many of Billy's songs and gives him a style all his own. After moving to Austin, he immediately fell in love with the local music scene. He has received incredible response back for all the songs on this recording, but if he had to pick one that seems to be the most popular, it would be 'Hickey Hiding Green Turtleneck' on track 5. 'It's a funny story about a shirt my mom kept up in the hall closet for just such special situations. With ten kids in the family, occasionally it would need to be pulled out and put into service.' Please take the time and listen to some of the song clips and you will find out what this talented singer, songwriter's growing popularity is all about.
