Crime thriller from French filmmaker Claude Chabrol. Mayor Paul Delamare (Claude Piéplu) has devious plans to buy up some property and turn it into a high-rise flat for workers who will be employed in his plastics factory. His assistant, Pierre (Michel Piccoli), has been involved in a longstanding passionate affair with the Mayor's wife, Lucienne (Stéphane Audran).
When the Mayor, continuing with his shady plans, discovers their affair and blackmails Pierre, there seems to be only one way out for the lovers - murder...
