Mokasso, the horse that tried to catch the wind
Benn Wasson
Mokasso was intrigued by the dust devils the wind had created and appeared in the field. He had just started chasing one of them but froze when he heard his first-ever thunderclap. He immediately ran to his mother who was standing by the fence. The farmer Juan and his wife Tranquillena knew that these types of storms could be deadly. Juan rushed to bring his freshly bailed hay into the barn so it would not get ruined by the rain. While Tranquellina ran outside to collect the clothes that were hanging to dry on the clothesline. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck down Mokasso and his mother. They ran out to the pair, only to find the mother had died. To their relief, the foal was still alive. Years later, Americus relates the story of Mokasso to his grand-daughter, reliving the nostalgic memories once again.
