The Artists' Emergency Response Cycle
Zeph Fishlyn
Zeph began an art project to research disaster in spring 2019-one year before the beginning of a pandemic, economic chaos, a racial justice uprising, and ash falling from orange Western skies. This book details some of Zeph's research and resulting projects through this eventful time, including the Emergency Dance Party Network and Evacuation Routes, a guided walk over Zoom that takes dispersed participants on a live exploration of the internal and external landscapes of their own neighborhoods. Zeph also reimagines a standard tool of emergency management, the Emergency Planning Cycle, to propose the necessity of play, ambiguity and open-ended questions in urgent times.
