This study focuses on a less research aspect of public policy, i.e. the role of public policy in shaping the political behaviour of the poor in Sri Lanka. Although, it is based on Sri Lanka experience in poverty alleviation, it has got a wide applicability at least within the South Asia and elsewhere in the developing world. This is a scholarly work that should be read by economics, political scientist, sociologist as well as development practitioner. The present study has filled a major lacuna in literature on development and public policy process. It can also be recommended for graduate and post graduate students who specialize in development related studied. The specificity of this study is not only the concern of public policy but also in public policy. This study does enhance the readers understanding of the scholarly field of politics, public policy and poverty alleviation while providing useful clues on how to overcome poverty.
