The Military and Democratization in Africa: a Critical Analysis of Transition to Civil Rule in Nigeria and Ghana (1960 - 2000)

This study provides an indepth analysis of transition programmes in Nigeria and Ghana. It brought to our attention the oft desire of the military to perpetuate themselves in power through inconclusive transition programmes. Power theory used as the theoretical framework not only directed the study but also facilitated the testing of the propositions. The findings showed that transition from military to civil rule will succeed if only the architects are sincerely committed to it.
