Skills, Equity and the Labour Market in Post Apartheid South Africa: Appraisal of Skills and Equity Dynamics

This book critically examines the current discourse on skills shortage in the South African workplace in the post apartheid era by reviewing the workplace in relation to equity and skills development in general. It also reviews the historical evolution of capitalist economy at the detriment of the indigenous knowledge system in relation to skills acquisition and utilization in meeting their daily livelihoods. However, the study revealed that although South African political settlement is highly celebrated in other quarters but the real fact of the matter is that inequality, lack of political will to bring about desired change and further undermining of indigenous knowledge systems remain prevalent as the stumbling block to change. For example, the adoption of ?ubuntu? principle to be one of the driving strategy to render relevant service delivery to the broader society remain debatable, as the principle tend to be in conflict with the core values of the capitalism such as individualism versus collectivism. Lastly, this study attempted to help in shedding some light in establishing the true settings of the current workplace in the apartheid era.
