Neurobiology of Aging

Recent advances in the neurobiology of Aging explains the role of nutritional supplements in the modulation of brain physiology, morphology, and vascular development and suggested new ways of drug administration in disease and health in particular to the aging society. Nutritional supplements alters with the signalling of neurotransmitters in the central nervous system in particular, the Cholinergic and the dopaminergic pathways which primarily controls voluntary and involuntary physiological actions. In this piece of work, I did evaluate the role of Alpha lipoic acid (thioctic acid), Posiphen supplementation in a model of cerebrovascular injury administered in the aged rats and transgenic mice models. The bioavailability of tizanidine(Sirdalaud) was used as a good model in evaluating intra nasal route of administration as an alternative route especially in the aging group with swallowing difficulties.
