Role of Metastasis Suppressors in Head and Neck Cancer: Cancer Genetics

Cancer is a polygenic disease and a number of genes correspond in cause and consequence relationship in initiation, progression and aggression of this disease. Although primary site is identifiable, but these cancers can be fatal among patients due to process of secondary invasion in distant areas of the body, a process termed metastasis. Certain genes have been identified and proposed to increase the chances of resistance against the metastasis which are known as Metastasis. The role of MSGs is now well established in various cancers like breast and ovarian cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, gastric cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma and HNC. Prevalence of HNC is alarmingly increasing in Pakistani population. So there is immense need to provide a basic data regarding this most devastating form of disease which ranks 5th among worldwide forms of cancer. In this study I propose to use head & neck cancer as a model. The salient objective of this study was to assess the mutational spectrum of KISS1 and KAI genes in both cancer and normal patients.
