Inter-urban Transportation Patterns in a Sub-region of Nigeria: an Analysis

There are patterns in the seemingly pandemonium movements of people within a region, whether in a motorized mode or non-motorized mode . Every urban centre is involved in these movements. Each urban centre generates and attracts certain kinds of and number of trips daily to and from other urban centres. Investigations reveal order and patterns in how poeple move about in a region. The knowledge of this emerging urban system is very essential but was lacking in many regions of the world, especially in the less economically developed regions. In the circumstance of the knowledge gap regarding the nature of travel and characteristics of the regional transport system, inter-urban transportation decisions were based on speculations. This study is a contribution to fill the gap. Data collection was through travel survey method. Multiple regression was used to measure the influence of one socio-economic factor acting in conjunction with other factors on the volume of interaction among the cities. Public and private transport operators will benefit from the study to plan and improve their operating service system. They would no longer need to rely on chance in providing transport services.
