Chickpea Blight Management by Natural Compounds of Allelopathic Trees: Natural Compounds of Allelopathic Trees As Anti Fungal Agents Against Ascochyta Rabiei (Pass) Lab.

Secondary metabolites are compounds which are biosynthetically derived from primary metabolites but are more limited in distribution in the plant kingdom. The present study was designed to isolate potential antifungal compounds from four allelopathic tree species; Alstonia scholaris, Eucalyptus citriodora, Melia azedarach and Syzygium cumini against Ascochyta rabiei, the cause of destructive blight disease of chickpea (Cicer arietinum) in Pakistan. To achieve this goal, the aqueous and various organic solvent extracts of leaves, barks and fruits of test plant species were evaluated for their in vitro antifungal activity against the target pathogen. The most effective extract was selected for fractional guided bioassay & various organic fractions were isolated. The isolated fractions were tested against the target pathogen. Effective fraction was selected for isolation of antifungal compound. The structural elucidation of isolated compounds were done by using UV, MS, EIMS, HR-EIMS & NMR. The MIC of isolated compounds were tested for their antifungal activity. This book is helpful for researchers engaged in the field of bio control, botanist & bio pesticides.
