Many of these characters mimicked the traits that humans aspired to emulate and, while most of these tales remain shrouded in mystery as to their true meanings, the people who believed in them seemed to draw strength, inspiration and, sometimes, if the stories are to be believed, took on the power of the gods so that they could serve their purpose.
