Have you heard the pun about an old man, sitting in a plane, with a gloriously elegant young woman, a ruthless killer, an athlete and a philosopher? No? I was that fortunate man. Good old Roy James, and my companion was a cocktail of the other four, and many other flavours too, when it served her purpose. Her name is Cains, just Cains. She is the most fascinating gifted, and unique individual I have ever met. And the punch-line? That would be the rest of this adventure. With Cains around it was certain there would be one. Funny? Perhaps. Spectacular? Definitely, and guaranteed to be enjoyable in a masochistic sort of way. She is unique, She is all any man could ever want in a woman, intelligence, beauty, compassion, fitness, outrageous humour. decisiveness, creativity in thought, abundant skills, loyalty to friends, and obsessive tunnelled hate. I loved her for all of them. With good reason she hates all those that make fortunes from illicit drugs, That is her vocation, She leads a small team of warriors winning battles in an unwinnable unending war. against a vast, would-wide, base opposition. Someone must do it. She prosecutes, is judge and executioner when it is appropriate. The work is 24/7/52 and is stressful. Outrageousness is her release. Coupled with her imagination, it can be painfully embarrassing until accepted as flattery. She has no time for a private life. Her work is too important. It demands her complete sacrifice. It is 5 years since we first met and my life was changed forever. She changed me from a useless contented drunk, guided me back from the brink of oblivion to be a different man, one I was comfortable with, with ambition and hope, as we together thwarted evil villains. Her mission over, she left me for other dangerous conquests. God willing, we shall meet again, she had said. Five years later I doubted His compliance. Her non-stop work was stressful. Five long years of it. Hypertension was diagnosed, and a holiday was prescribed. I was to be used again. This is the story of our second time together. Of how we travelled by ship to exotic places whilst we monitored the actions of criminals on board. Of how our relationship developed, and both our characters changed. Ours was to be a watching brief until fate intervened. We had an opportunity to influence, to stage manage an endgame with dire consequences. Sacrifices, colleagues lost, true villains dead. Justice prevailed with leads to follow to lead on to more villains in future episodes. Only time needed for opportunities to gain substantial real victories. At first I doubted her sincerity. Over time I became convinced that she did need me and we share four months of ultimate loving togetherness. And then again she left me, yet again, but this time, with a duty to take care of, and that would surely bring her back.
