For twelve-year-old Sam, life always seemed incomplete. Everyday thorns such as bullying, neglect, and loneliness were always there to prick his sides--until he meets the inexplicably captivating Elise, an alluring girl his age, who seems to illuminate the foggy path of his early teen days.

The two develop a friendship which spirals them into a twisted daydream when, suddenly, everything changes. Elise comes with a demonic price, and it's not a question of if Sam is willing to pay it--it's whether he can.

Growing up in northern Kentucky, Ratliff read fantasy from an early age. After high school, he moved with his family to Wilmington, North Carolina, where he works retail while writing.
