The Last Trail

This novel would be a great historical reading assignment for a High School History class. Zane Grey was an American author best known for his adventure novels and pulp fiction that glamorized the Old West. Grey became one of the first millionaire authors. He would spend part of the year traveling having adventures and the rest of the year using his experiences to create his fiction. In The Last Trail Helen and her father leave Virginia for the wilderness of the frontier in the Ohio Valley. They were saved from Indians by two bordermen. Helen and one of the men fall in love. Themes included are: life in the Valley, Indian resentment of the white man's encroaching on their land, horse rustlers, and building a homestead. Although this is the final book in the Ohio River Trilogy, the book can stand alone.
