Having been imprisoned in Elfhame, the Faery World, for several months, Emily is growing tired of Sylph Court rules and the smug, Fae Knight who is bound to be her guard. After an attack on the Court, the King and Queen are dead and Oscar, Emily's boyfriend and the Sylph Prince, has become King but there's a problem - the Crown, which contains the magic that allows him to rule, has been stolen. Emily has two options: stay and marry Oscar, so her status as a Fortune gives him enough power to rule. Or use her new-found powers to go in search of the Crown. But while she's not keen on becoming a teen bride, going on a hunt for the Crown means crossing into the dangerous lands of the other Courts, facing down cannibalistic fae, and surviving the Badlands...oh, and dealing with Trey, who won't let her go alone.
