The Brotherhood

Oasis was a space station just outside Earth's orbit that was designed to be a shelter for mankind after the surface had been irreparably destroyed by a nuclear attack. It was man's second chance, where they could be free of the petty politics that had caused them to destroy the planet. Under the guidance of the Brotherhood of Man, the inhabitants of Oasis lived happily-free of war, poverty and crime. Nobody ever went hungry and they all knew their place from the time they were born. Luc was going to be a pilot. It would be his job to shoot through the stars and transport men and women to different planets. It was a coveted opportunity, one that he was happy to take advantage of. First, though, he would have to go down to the surface with the rest of his class so they could learn about what happened to their planet after the nuclear war. They always told him that it was just a scorched wasteland, and that nothing was moving down there, but he saw something, and when it attacked him he nearly died. He wound up in a bed in the middle of the healing ward, fighting for his sanity and the love of a beautiful attendant named Marie. He needed somebody to look after him, and she was the only one that would. She wasn't supposed to care about him, but she did. She was the only comfort he ever had. He told her his secrets, they fell in love and she changed the fate of the species.
