Playing the upright bass is an art that requires attention to details of posture, form, fingering, and execution. This is book 1 of my three book method for complete mastery of the upright bass. This book covers the basics concerning getting around the bass in the lower positions. I cover the building blocks of western harmony- major, minor, dominant, diminished and augmented scales and chords (arpeggios). I provide you with some of my favorite exercises for execution of these scales. I present melodies for you to bow. I recommend cds for your general jazz library and list a great performances on bass to be found on cd.
