John Coltrane

European Tour 1961

A reminder of the story: 1961: Coltrane leaves the Miles Davis quintet(march) shortly after their return from Europe. He wants to found his first truly personal group. After being constituted in quartet (Tyner, Workman, Jones) he decides to integrate Eric Dolphy at the beginning of the summer. He considers that Dolphy is the only 'blowers' who can integrate into his musical universe. The 1961 European Tour occurs at the end of the period of maturation of the quintet, immediately after the 2 weeks spent at Village Vanguard. When they land in Europe, Coltrane and his musicians are hot like the embers!
