An engaging performer with a warm, relaxed stage presence, Eve's clear, expressive voice will pull you in, whether she's singing a capella or accompanying herself on fingerstyle or flatpicked guitar. Her music is an appealing blend of the many styles that have deeply influenced her, including folk, blues, bluegrass, swing, jazz, old-time, gospel and more. Singing a mixture of her own songs, songs by other writers, and traditional material, she combines a heartfelt respect for the music of earlier times with a love of contemporary folk styles. Perhaps this is why Eve's own songs have been described as indistinguishable from enduring classics. Audiences love the rich musical texture of her performances, as she sings a quiet ballad one minute, picks a guitar instrumental the next, belts out a blues the next, and tops it off with an uplifting a capella chorus. But more than anything, listeners respond to Eve's music because it is about the everyday lives of ordinary people - their joys, hopes, struggles and triumphs. Eve was born in New England, the youngest child in a very musical family. While her mom is a dyed-in-the-wool folkie, her father listened to classical, opera, and jazz music. Her sister tended more towards pop and singer-songwriters, and her brother added some rock and r into the mix. Eve's musical influences include Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Ella Fitzgerald, The Weavers, Bonnie Raitt, The Beatles, and Jim Kweskin and the Jug Band, among others. She began playing the guitar at age eight, and although it is still her main instrument, over the years she has also tried her hand at piano, violin/fiddle, mandolin, double bass, banjo, harmonica, trumpet, and percussion, to varying degrees of success. She also yearns to be an Appalachian clogger, but so far she has only managed to exhibit lots of enthusiasm and not much skill. Besides, it hurts her knees. As a teenager living in Toronto, Eve was particularly drawn to music that carried the social history of ordinary people in North America, which naturally reinforced her love of folk music styles. Her interest in music history eventually led her to undertake a cultural studies degree in university, during which time she spent a memorable summer at the well-known Highlander Center in Tennessee. Eve's performing career began in 1990 and she has since performed at numerous festival and clubs in Canada and the U.S. Her first CD 'Ever Brightening Day' was released in September 1998 and has received enthusiastic reviews and extensive airplay across Canada, the U.S., Britain, Australia, and New Zealand. Regular listeners to CBC Radio One will recognize her instrumental tune 'Watermelon Sorbet' as the opening theme to the popular national daily show 'Richardson's Roundup.' In her non-performing life, Eve maintains an active involvement in the folk music world. She was the founding manager of The Borealis Recording Company - Canada's only national folk music label - a post she held from the labels' launch in 1996 until August of 2001. She is one of the organizers of The Woods Music and Dance Camp, a magical week-long community music retreat for adults.
