Richard Wagner
Mannheim-based music publisher Emil Heckel (1831-1908) founded the first Wagner Society in 1871 to raise money for the inaugural Bayreuth Festival. This 1899 work, prepared by William Ashton Ellis (1852-1919), charts the festival's development through translations of Heckel's memoirs and Wagner's letters to his friend.
