Survival 101: a Memoir of a Man Touched by Pain, but Still Able to Find Comfort.

Publisher Marketing: The author, Dr. Jackson, invites you to join him on a trip back through time, experience different cultures, and visit different places and countries. This journey may cause laughter, or may trigger an unanticipated emotion. It is the author's belief that the twenty-one four-page stories will be an easy read. In addition, he hopes that the book will enrich your life and provide some practical insights and understanding that will help you survive and rise above the stresses of everyday life. A unifying underlying theme throughout the book is the application of Churchill's admonishment to us all, "Never give in!" Adhering to those inspiring words provided sufficient impetus to sustain the author's parents during and after World War II. The value of having such a mindset was understood and embraced by the author, who is their son. Through the intimate details in this story, you will experience a revealing journey, which spans a century, and shows how a family navigated through trials and tribulations. The author recently set the stage for this work by saying, "Dad came from a pro-western family of Samurai descent in Japan. Mum was born in Wales. During World War II, Dad worked for the British Foreign Office. He was part of the Allied Forces' antidote to Tokyo Rose's radio propaganda broadcasts. They met in London, and then moved to Tokyo, where I was born. Shortly afterwards, we returned to England, where I was educated." Union Carbide brought Dr. Jackson to the US in 1976. In 1980, he established a computer consultancy. After thirty-three years, he asked, "What should I do when I grow up?" The answer triggered a move to Richmond, Virginia, where he became a university professor. He hopes to remain continually young-at-heart.
